There is a proverb in Irish that I love:

Two shorten a road

English

Giorraíonn beirt bóthar

Irish

GURR-EE-ONN  BIRCH BO-HARR

Pronunciation of Irish

Just as every student is unique, so is every teacher.

And I can be the other person with you on your Irish language journey,

to help shorten the road.

Why am I doing this?

I started learning Irish at the age of 12, and a whole new world opened up to me. I remember being in awe of the fact that there was a whole other living language in Ireland, the language of Ireland and I became fascinated by it.

I just love teaching Irish to everyone and anyone who wants to learn it and I dedicate myself to teaching each student in a way that suits them.

I work with students from all walks of life to help them reach their Irish language goals. Creativity, and inspiring creativity in my students is very important to me.

I have had students who have gained the confidence to write and narrate children’s stories, poetry and sketches. I have worked with students in Ireland, US, Canada, Australia and Brazil.

I have helped students of all ages prepare for exams and interviews. I have mentored teachers at both primary and secondary level in Ireland and have taught at third level in Ireland and Canada.

I have studied Old Irish through to Modern Irish, with a Master’s level degree in Irish language translation – with a thesis on gaming narrative and learning Irish.

This led me to do further studies in animation and see how I could evolve my teaching in a more visual way.

I also have a teaching qualification and I am registered with the Teaching Council of Ireland to teach Irish at post primary level.

I am involved with the Irish language television production sector as well, and have worked as a creative translator for different drama and musical projects.

Bríd, Irish Language Teacher

Welcome to the new version of the

Irish Language Teacher website!

I set up the Irish Language Teacher website way back in 2019 to help anyone who was interested in learning Irish, with other lessons that dipped into the history of the language, as well as customs, folk songs and even a little bit of poetry.

I received lots of lovely feedback from people who used it and many students asking for help for their exams, so I also included some curriculum-based topics for them.

And now…. The time has come to give the Irish Language Teacher website a fresh new look!

The lessons have been put into theme specific courses and there is now an e-Book available with the Phrase Cards for those who find them useful.

I aim to demystify many aspects of the language that have caused confusion to learners before now and I do this in the same way in my videos as I would do if I was standing in a classroom.

There are taster lessons available for free at all levels, and paid courses for those who want to delve in a bit deeper to other areas of interest.

I hope that my lessons will help anyone who is interested in the Irish language, and I am always open to suggestions and contactable via the website.
