TEG is an Irish language certificate that is based on the European Framework for Languages. It stands for Teastas (Certificate) Eorpach (European) na Gaeilge (Irish language).
Whether you are going for an exam for professional or personal reasons, we can support you in getting through it!

The TEG levels go from A1 (Total Beginner) through to C2 (Fluent - speaking like a native speaker!)
There are 6 levels in total:
A1 & A2 (Beginner)
B1 & B2 (Intermediate)
C1 & C2 (Advanced)
Students are examined on all four aspects of the language - listening, reading, writing and speaking. Find out more at www.teg.ie.

To get into the Hibernia course, all students must apply and then do an interview in English, as well as in Irish. Even if you have your H4 or higher grade in Irish at Leaving Cert, you will still have to do the Irish language part of the interview with Hibernia.
Some students might pass the English part of the interview but fail on the Irish part. You can be exempt from doing the Irish language part of the interview, if you can show that you have passed the oral exam in TEG at level B1.
If you would like to re-train as a primary school teacher in Ireland, you will be expected to have studied Leaving Cert Irish at the Higher Level and have attained a minimum grade of H4.

For reasons that could be professional or personal, it can be a good motivation to aim for a qualification that shows you have committed to improving your Irish!
